Some days are great wonderful beach days. Some days you wake up with a spider making home in your hair. It been an interesting week, prepping for my new fantastic move (moving date is July 7, soooo excited), job hunting, working on commissions, and enjoying some of the nice weather.  Gotta love summer. Just wanted to remind you all that I have a show coming up. Its for the Williams prize drawing awards. Its taking place at the Silpe Gallery in Hartford Connecticut on July 9.  If you are looking for more information https://www.artistforartistsproject.org/. Hope you are all having a great summer!

So last night was my Exhibition at Arsenal center for the arts in Watertown and it was Fantastic. So much amazing artwork there. They are exhibiting my piece, Penelope, which is starting to look like a top pick for group exhibitions. On top of that my amazing childhood friend Gaby came to support me at this show!

Since know me from first grade, Gaby and I have many wonderful and embarrassing stories together. Mostly involving the accidental destruction of her property. Its amazing I haven't scared her off yet.

We ate, we drake, and were merry while perusing the artwork.  Gotta love shows, free food and booze!

Had a great time and just wanted to share!

Good evening, morning, or afternoon(depending where you are)

Life has gotten extra crazy as of late so tons to catch you up on.

Most importantly I've been Celebrating!!! It was my dad's birthday and one of my friend's from college wedding. Great thing about being an artist is that I always have gifts ready at a moments notice. I painted my dad some goldfish and gave the lovely bride a newer version of a painting that she loved of mine. Here are the gold fish (glub glub)

Second Important and Distracting thing is I've been showing my Work (YAY) and I had one of my lovely awesome friends attended some opening with me. She is a very epic artist from new York named Alyssa Mullen, I highly endorse checking her out on facebook.
https://www.facebook.com/AlyssaMullenArt/?ref=br_rs
I especially love her meat jar series :)
She went with me to A show I had at Alternative Art space in Boston which is still opening this week if you are interested and took this lovely photo of me.

Yes I know, I'm sooo gorgeous I've shocked you all :)
I've also had a lot of public art sales which are always interesting and usually fun.

There are two shows coming up which are Exciting one is called Framework at the Watertown MA  arsenal center for the arts. The put me on there flyer which is super flattering and it looks like it'll be an epic show. Definetely Stop by and Say HI!!!

The other show I was recently Accepted for Is for the William Award in drawing, which will be exhibiting July 9th. Definitely give you all more details as more information comes up.

Else wise life has been fairly comical, I'm currently couch surfing until my new apartment is ready July 7th (can't wait!).  Which leads me to many awkward situations in my dating life and juggling my Three Jobs. But I can't complain, being busy keep me out of trouble. Other than making presents I've been sketching more than painting, but some of the ideas I'm coming up with are super exciting, can't wait to show everyone.

Thanks for reading my babble. I'll try to hop on here with more funny stories, not just all my art updates. Bye for now.

Tis the season for deliciousness, been eating them, and now painting them in part for a commission. YAY

Outside of this I've had many adventures. Invasion of popcorn propellers, Super smooth Hand shaking displays, and lot of delivery food between packing sprees.

BUT the most unbelievable, Amazing, SHOCKING thing to happen is... I was told by my new job I have NEAT HANDWRITING!!!! no one who knows me will believe it. I typically have worse than Doctors scrawl. Probably a fluke, but still the best compliment I've ever gotten :)

Been out and about and officially feel like a professional painter. Why you may ask! Because I've exchanged a piece of artwork for hot chocolate!! I've participated in the long time tradition of art for food, and made a new friend.
So every one meet Mohamed who picked out this lovely doodle!

In other news I've been accepted into Arsenal Center for the Arts', in Watertown, MA,  Frameworks Show. They will be featuring Penelope in their show, and I'll keep you guys updated on the details but WOOHOO, its great to know people are interested in seeing my work.

Hiya!
So ever plan something and in your head it seem like it was a fantastic plot, then halfway through doing it you wondering why on earth you ever thought this was a good idea. Well that was me yesterday :) The plan was to stop by my studio, pick up some artwork for this Epic show called Barry's shop and walk it over. Little did I pay attention to the map... it was an over 4 mile walk, with heavy wooden artwork... and then my phone died on top of that, so I was Lugging my gorgeous artwork, while very lost.

But it was All worth it!!!! They accept a lovely smattering of my work and are exhibiting and selling it now. Plus I might have burned off the cookies I had for breakfast :D
Here is some of the details on the place

Definitely go check it out, the gallery is set up as a surreal pop grocery store for artwork

I'm also starting to pull apart my studio in prep for the big move (sniff, sniff) and here are some shots of that epic-ness before its gone

Hey everyone(possibly anyone)
I thought I should give an update on what I'm working on. These piece are going to go on my Artworks page. They are close to being finished but aren't all the way there so the images may be changing soon:). these are more of my figurative dissection and displacement. The idea of these pieces is to removing some identities and making identity remains questionable. if anyone has thoughts, comments, concerns, question, I'd love to here them.

Also I want to apologize about the infrequency of post. I'm trying to get on here everyday, but I'm in the middle of moving so my schedule is in constant flux. Though the place I'm moving to has a pool so that's super exciting. :)

Everyday in Every way

In my undergrad, I had one amazing and Rather odd professor. His name was Otremsky, and he used to stride about the room  bellowing "every day in every way be a better painter". He also would make fart noises with his hands, interrupt us by exclaiming the devil, and purposely try to scare us whilst painting. Awesome but weird. I still try my best to live by that saying though. Every day I try to do something, anything to contribute to my art practice.
We all use to joke in between the smell of paint fumes, that this was a secret plot of his. He had a scheme to slowly but surely turn us into mini Otremsky minions. He could take over the world one fumigated art student at a time.
Undergrad was generally an odd but epic time in my life
On a less interesting note, I've found old photos of my artwork!!!! You can see some of them on my artwork page, you'll notice I'm rearranging if you are paying attention so only half my things are labelled at the moment. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Romantic foreplay of Misery and Artist

4/17/2016

Picture
So the other day, I heard an art  professor say to a student, "its good, I like to see that you are unhappy" to which I piped in sarcastically "yes! be more miserable".
To which she amended, "its a good thing to be frustrated and unhappy with your work, even though his work is very well done, it means you are striving for more"

Artist have a romantic history of being miserable. Its where we get the terms "starving artist" and "suffering from your work"... but why? I know some of my best work has happened when I was in a good mood, on a roll, feeling so inspired that I keep pumping work out. I've also made some very good work when I was unhappy, in which case it was my solace, comfort and therapeutic.... I aslo can make some really good artwork that sometimes scares me and I have to wonder, where on earth did that come from.

But more often than not when I'm unhappy with my work it means I have artist block, which there is not much you can do but work through it. During that time, I know I'm going to produce some really horrendous artwork, but eventually something will click and I'll be inspired again.

Does that struggle make us a better artist? Perhap but not always. Either way we shouldn't embrace being miserable as an artistic practice, or be happy that someone else is struggling through a block in hope of now and better work.

Today I'm working on more dissect bodies. :) Send good vibes my way

Would you like your mind scrambled or fried???

So on a lighter  note today some awesome things did happen. I got lost on a way to a gallery and went on a really pretty walk, enjoyed some springtime and sight. Saw some amazing artwork, watch some Hitchcock, got some good work done on my own pieces. Most importantly, I enjoyed some much need Nutella!

But most of what I want to babble about is not art... :?

Also, today was just weird, a little twilight zone-ish. I feel like it was some kind of internationally "let's tackle controversial subjects" day. I know anyone who reads this might not think that this is not an untypical things, people debate constantly, we don't all sit in a circle, holding hand and singing.

What made it odd was how I couldn't escape it, and trust me I tried. Legitimately every conversation had today was on some controversial and sensitive subject. Which is a bit exhausting.  But debating these sore subject is both a good thing and a bad thing. Good because it means we aren't all mindless sheep. We have opinions, a sense of right and wrong that we feel a need to speak up about. Also these conversations in the art community bring out a lot of good work.

Now before I go onto why these debate can be a bad thing(outside just brain frying) let me point out the hot topics of the day. There was rape culture, gun culture, medicine vs. alternative therapy for mental illness, race identification vs. unconscious racism in society,  art appropriation vs. cultural appropiation, females paintings sexual imagery vs. men.... And much much more

... like i said alot of topics to discuss in one day.

So reasons these debates can be a bad thing. These debates came about fairly naturally and felt oddly unprompted, so when we are talking of subjects of rape or mental illness, though its things that can have many opinionated response, you never know who in the group discussions are struggling with these thing. So when someone make a blatant response on how a women typically deals with being sexually assaulted, it alienates  these people farther feeling like they aren't the norm. of course they can speak up but no one like to be viewed as a victim. For all i know the person  leading this debate could be a victim, but peoples come from all different perspective and respond differently.

Is it ok to make individuals feel uncomfortable in a public forum for the sake of free speech or is it better that these sensitive subjects are brought into the light so people struggling with these issue feel as if they can share as well.

So long story short I don't know it just something that came to mind amidst the debating of the day. If anyone has a opinion I'm up for hearing it.

So I just complained about too many opinions today and then brought out my own debating point Hahaha (or maybe I'm a sheep too so BAAAA!!!!)

Can't lie, I'm super proud of myself for posting now two days in a row. Spent all day working at a Chinese auction house, getting yelled at in a multitude  languages, and now here reviewing what I should update you on, I do have a series of work that I've yet to set up on here based on a poem I wrote. So  I'm just going apologize ahead of time to anyone who might read this here is is :)

Are you innocent Monsieur peacock?
As i tear off pieces of myself,
like bread to the debonair ducks
the real question is...
will Hansel and Gretel follow the crumbs or the course?
will their grandiose be enough?
or are they all gobbled up?
....gobble,gobble.
fatten up the lost souls
orange candy for all
as you become the thanksgiving feast

So now all I need to do is manage to get the artwork for this poem one here. the goal is for tomorrow. Be sure so watch the artwork section for is. ;)

Welcome, so I decided to attempt a blog with my website. wish me luck. Just got back from a show in Trenton, New Jersey, it was great, and while I was there I thought I should try to be a professional and meet with some galleries. Sadly my charm and Fancy Dancy business cards weren't enough, thus this site. Ta-Da.
